Buster Sword; A Legacy.

"This sword is a symbol of my dreams... and my honor. No... it's more than that..."

So, guys, meet the Buster Sword. Buster Sword, these guys.

Some people, the cool ones, would thought that this sword is the greatest sword ever forged. The greatest item ever created. Greatest legacy ever told.
Some other people, the okay ones, would thought that this thing is an iconic item of the FFVII series. Period.
And for the uncool people, they would thought that this is just an item. Junk in the item screen. A total meh because it only holds two materia slots and has only 18 power.

This thing, sir, is a legacy. This thing, is an epochal mark. This thing, is the Buster Sword, a weapon so awesome, it creates its own story.

Background check first.

The supposedly "father" of Angeal, whose name remains unknown, got the Buster Sword forged for Angeal for when he joined SOLDIER. Angeals parents borrowed a large sum of money to pay for the sword. To pay off the debts, the father worked his back off until he fell ill, and passed away. Angeal decided to take care of the sword as careful as possible, to honor the memory of his father. It eventually became the symbol of his honor, and prefered to use it as minimal as possible, because use will only cause "tear, wear, and rust" -- and that's a real waste. But he also stated that Zack's is more important than his sword. But just a little.

When Angeal died, he entrusted the sword to Zack, as the symbol of his honor and dreams. And I can't say I didn't cry at this scene. Zack used the sword more frequently, but slashing it on the blunt side, to avoid use on the edge.

After Zack and Cloud got infused by Sepiroth's cell, Cloud got Zack's memory. He was at a weak state at first, though, and can only moan and grunt. After Zack got gunned down by Shinra soldiers, he lied down, dying, holding the Sword. Cloud came up to him, and spoke to him, as he bumped the sword to Cloud's head, that the sword is the symbol of his dreams and his honor. And even more than that.

Again, I cried. Mostly because of the BGM and the flashback though.

The sword continued its legacy to cloud. Not many addition to the legacy on Cloud's arc, except the sword is placed on the place of Zack's death sometime after the end of FFVII. And in the end of Advent Children, the sword is moved to the Sector 5 Church, polished clean of the rust.

And it marked the end of the legacy of the Buster Sword.

Buster Sword. Such a simple name, but it bears the most epic legacy in the whole FF franchise. At some points, thoughts came to me, "why not name it "Honor", or "Legacy", or something cool like those?"
Maybe it's the lack of thought that the franchise would be that epic. Or maybe Kazushige Nojima wanted to tell us that sometimes the simplest things could bear the heaviest weights.

Another thought occurred to me. The wielders of the sword, all was infused or contained the Jenova cells. And they are also parts of the Jenova Project. This is either caused by the fate, or Hojo and Hollander all wanted to see the causality effect on intertwined people. Or maybe this is all just pure coincidence.

This is an item that made me shed a tear. Twice. When I lost my PSP, I only cried once. The sword is digital, and it caused me more emotional swings.

An item so epic, it marks the whole franchise.

The Buster Sword.
